A message from Jim Anderson, general manager of The Techs.
Welcome to our new website. Please navigate the site to learn more about us and what we have to offer. There are resources for customers, suppliers, and employees. We’ve provided information on our history, our products and facilities—and on our philosophy of providing the best customer service in our industry.
We’re The Techs—comprising our MetalTech, NexTech, and GalvTech plants. At our three Pittsburgh-area facilities, we produce a full range of hot-dipped galvanized steel sheet. And we produce a lot of it—up to 1 million tons annually.
Our galvanized steel sheet is used to make countless products that must stand the tests of both time and the elements. Our customers are in a wide array of industries including transportation, construction, consumer goods, agriculture, and distribution. This list goes on.
We’ve been around since 1984, when a group of steel-industry veterans, innovators and entrepreneurs all, founded MetalTech, our flagship facility. They made that bold move during a time when the steel business was in a tailspin in the Pittsburgh area. But our company’s founders knew they could have a winner on their hands if they concentrated on two areas: keeping costs down and paying close attention to what customers really wanted.
We remain focused on those two areas today. We strive to make the best quality products in the most cost-effective way, and we treat our customers with gratitude for the business with which we are rewarded. We’re driven by the demands of our customers and our desire to exceed their expectations. We’re agile, flexible, and responsive to our customers’ needs.
But don’t take my word for it—our outstanding customer service is well documented. We regularly rank at the top of the annual Jacobson Customer Satisfaction Survey, an indicator of customer care in the steel industry.
In 2007, we became a proud member of the Steel Dynamics family, and we maintain an especially close relationship with SDI’s Flat Roll Division. We continue to share technology and best practices that enhance our operations.
The tie that really binds, however, is the culture shared by The Techs and SDI. Our folks are highly capable self starters that have proven that they can meet high performance standards. Our variable compensation approach rewards our team members for achieving company metrics in both productivity and profitability; it also fosters an environment of teamwork, mutual respect, empowerment, and performance.
This shared culture is an incubator for high quality, productivity, profitability, safety, and, yes, customer service and satisfaction.
